Daily Reflection: Sacred Rhythm of Service
Day 1: Serving by Prayer
Read John 13:1-17. Take some time to imagine the scene.
Prayer: “God, may your kingdom come and your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Bring me someone today that I can serve.”
Act: Pray for the people in your life by name (family, co-workers, friends). Pray that God would help you see them as he sees them.
Day 2: Serving by Listening
Re-read John 13:1-17. Why was Jesus doing this? What would this look like today?
Prayer “God, may your kingdom come and your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Bring me someone today that I can serve.”
Act: Look for every opportunity to stop and truly listen to the people God has put in front of you. Be willing to adjust your time and schedule to do this. Always end by thanking the person for sharing with you.
Day 3: Serving by Asking
Re-read John 13:1-17. Based on this passage, what kind of person is Jesus?
Prayer “God, may your kingdom come and your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Bring me someone today that I can serve.”
Act: Act: Serve the people you work with by asking questions about them, their lives, what they think, as well as how things are going. Always end by thanking the person for sharing with you.
Day 4: Serving by Encouraging
Re-read John 13:1-17. Why did Peter not want to be served? How do you do the same with God or others?
Prayer “God, may your kingdom come and your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Bring me someone today that I can serve.”
Act: Serve the people you work with today by prayerfully looking for what they are good at, what they do well, and the best of who they are. Encourage them by telling them so.
Look for people whose work and lives serve and benefit you. Thank them.
Day 5: Serving by Giving
Re-read John 13:1-17. Ask God what this kind-of humble service look like in action today?
Prayer “God, may your kingdom come and your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Bring me someone today that I can serve.”
Act: Look for something that needs to be done and quietly do it, even if it is not your job. Ask God to help you find other ways to creatively give today to people he puts in your life. Ask them “Is there any way I can help you?” and do it.
